History

Formed in 1801 from Grainger County and Knox County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Anderson County was created on December 13, 1801, from Grainger County, Knox County, and Non-County Area 2. Over the following decades, the county's boundaries changed multiple times through exchanges and transfers with neighboring counties including Campbell, Morgan, Roane, Scott, and Union.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
