History

Formed in 1807 from Roane County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Bledsoe County was created from Roane County on November 30, 1807 and named after Anthony Bledsoe. The county's boundaries shifted multiple times: it gained territory from White, Roane, Rhea, and Hamilton counties, and lost land to the creation of Marion and Cumberland counties.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
