History
Formed in 1817 from Hickman County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Wayne County was created on November 24, 1817, from Hickman County and Non-County Area 4, though the original authorization was technically invalid until it was reauthorized on October 8, 1819. The county was named after Anthony Wayne and experienced numerous boundary adjustments throughout the 19th century, gaining and losing territory to neighboring counties including Hickman, Perry, Lewis, and Lawrence.
