History
Formed in 1823 from Shelby County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Tipton County was created from part of Shelby County on October 29, 1823. The county experienced multiple boundary adjustments over its history, losing territory to the creation of Lauderdale County in 1835 and again in 1873, while gaining small areas from neighboring counties in 1868 and 1883, and losing land to Shelby County in 1925.
