History
Formed in 1796 from Sumner County and Tennessee County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Robertson County was created on April 9, 1796, from Sumner County and the extinct Tennessee County. The county was named after James Robertson. Between 1799 and 1856, Robertson County underwent numerous boundary changes, gaining and losing land to Montgomery, Dickson, and Cheatham counties.
