History
Formed in 1808 from Dickson County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Hickman County was created from Dickson County in 1808. The county's boundaries changed many times over the following decades: it lost territory to Lawrence and Wayne counties in 1817 and 1818, regained some of that territory in 1821, then lost it again in 1822. Additional losses occurred when Humphreys County was created from Hickman in 1836, Lewis County in 1843, and Perry County in 1846.
