History

Formed in 1849 from Anderson County, Campbell County, Fentress County and Morgan County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Scott County was created from Anderson, Campbell, Fentress, and Morgan counties in 1849. The county was named after Winfield Scott. Its boundaries were adjusted multiple times over the following decades, exchanging land with neighboring counties to accommodate local residents.
