History

Formed in 1844 from Coffee County and Warren County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Grundy County was created on May 27, 1844, from Coffee and Warren counties. The county's boundaries changed several times in its early decades through exchanges and transfers with neighboring counties including Coffee, Warren, Marion, Franklin, and Sequatchie, with these adjustments continuing into 1870 when it gained territory from Marion County by authority of the 1870 Tennessee State Constitution.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
