History
Formed in 1806 from Anderson County and Claiborne County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Campbell County was established on September 11, 1806, from parts of Anderson and Claiborne counties. The county went through numerous boundary adjustments with neighboring counties, exchanging land with Anderson, Claiborne, Union, and Overton counties between 1807 and 1854. Fentress County was created from Campbell County territory in 1823, and Scott County was created from Campbell County in 1849.
