History
Founded in 1807
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Franklin County was created from non-county area on December 3, 1807, and named after Benjamin Franklin. The county gained and lost territory through the 19th century through transactions with neighboring counties including Warren, Bedford, Marion, Grundy, and Lincoln, and through the creation of Coffee County.
