History
Formed in 1824 from Madison County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Haywood County lost land to the creation of Lauderdale County in 1835, and again through several boundary adjustments to Lauderdale County and to Madison County over the following decades. Multiple legislative attempts to create Crockett County from Haywood and other counties between 1845 and 1870 were either ruled unconstitutional or did not take effect, until Crockett was finally created from Haywood in 1872.
