History

Formed in 1870 from Macon County, Smith County, Sumner County and Wilson County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Trousdale County was created from parts of Macon, Smith, Sumner, and Wilson counties and named after William Trousdale. The county lost much of its territory two years after its creation when the Tennessee Supreme Court declared its boundaries null and void, and subsequent boundary adjustments with neighboring counties continued through the early 1960s.
