History

Formed in 1806 from Jackson County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Overton County was created from Jackson County on September 11, 1806. Over the following decades, the county experienced numerous boundary changes, including losses to the creation of Morgan, Fentress, and Putnam counties, and gains from White, Fentress, Jackson, and Putnam counties.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
