History
Formed in 1801 from Knox County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Roane County was created from Knox County on December 20, 1801. Throughout the early 19th century, the county's boundaries shifted multiple times as new counties were created from its territory, including Bledsoe and Rhea in 1807, Morgan and Anderson in 1818, and McMinn and Monroe in 1819. Roane also gained territory from neighboring counties through boundary adjustments and local accommodations through the 1840s.
