History
Formed in 1882 from Hardeman County, Henderson County, McNairy County, Madison County and Wisdom County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Chester County was created on April 1, 1882, from parts of Hardeman, Henderson, McNairy, and Madison counties, and was named after Robert I. Chester. In the decades following its creation, Chester County's boundaries were adjusted several times through gains and losses of small areas to and from neighboring counties, particularly McNairy, Hardeman, and Hardin.
