History

Formed in 1826 from Phillips County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Crittenden County was created by Arkansas Territory from Phillips County in 1826. The county lost territory to the creation of Mississippi County in 1834 and lost Dean Island to Mississippi County in 1861. In 1862, Crittenden lost territory to the creation of Cross and St. Francis counties, then gained from Cross and lost to St. Francis and the creation of Lee County in 1873.
