History
Formed in 1814 from Warrick County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Posey County was created by the Indiana Territory from Warrick County in 1814. When Indiana became a state in 1816, Posey County was established as a county in Indiana, gaining a small area from Gibson County. Over the following decades, the county's boundaries shifted through various gains and losses, including the creation of Vanderburgh County from Posey land in 1818 and ongoing boundary adjustments with Gibson County.
