History

Formed in 1832 from Adams County, Allen County and Grant County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Huntington County was created on February 2, 1832, from parts of Adams, Allen, and Grant counties. Initially not fully organized, Huntington was attached to Allen and Grant for administrative and judicial purposes until it was fully organized on February 1, 1834. Whitley County was temporarily attached to Huntington for administrative purposes beginning in 1836 before becoming fully organized and detached in 1838.
