History

Formed in 1822 from Delaware County, Adams County, Wabash County and Monroe County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Morgan County was created from parts of the Delaware New Purchase (later the Adams New Purchase) and from the Wabash New Purchase attached to Monroe County. The county was named after Daniel Morgan. On March 11, 1861, Morgan County lost territory to Putnam County, and on June 6, 1868, it lost additional territory to Hendricks County.
