History

Formed in 1824 from Delaware County and Adams County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Allen County was created on April 1, 1824, from Delaware and Adams counties and non-county areas. From 1828 to 1836, Allen County lost territory to the creation of Carroll, Cass, Elkhart, Grant, Huntington, Lagrange, Wells, De Kalb, Whitley, and Noble counties.
