History

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Newton County was created on February 7, 1835, but was not immediately organized, with parts attached to St. Joseph, Warren, and White Counties for administrative purposes. The county was eliminated in 1839 when all its territory was lost to Jasper County, but was re-created in 1859 with different boundaries.
