History

Formed in 1814 from Clark County and Harrison County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Washington County was created on January 17, 1814, by the Indiana Territory from Clark and Harrison counties. The county was named after George Washington. When Indiana became a state in 1816, Washington County became a county within the new state.
