History

Formed in 1835 from Adams County, Delaware County and Randolph County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Jay County was created on February 7, 1835, from parts of Adams, Delaware, and Randolph counties, though it was not fully organized until March 1, 1836. In 1838, Jay County lost territory to the creation of Blackford County; Blackford was fully organized and detached from Jay on January 29, 1839.
