History

Formed in 1818 from Sullivan County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Vigo County was created from Sullivan County in 1818 and gained additional territory from Sullivan the following year. The county lost land to the creation of Parke County in 1821, Putnam County in 1822, and Clay County in 1825, though it regained some territory from Putnam in 1822.
