History

Formed in 1817 from Jackson County, Jefferson County and Ripley County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Jennings County was created from Jackson and Jefferson on February 1, 1817, with Ripley County temporarily attached for administrative purposes. Ripley was fully organized and detached from Jennings in 1818, and Scott County was created from Jennings in 1820. Over the next two decades, Jennings gained small areas from Jefferson County in 1830 and 1835.
