History

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Steuben County was created on February 7, 1835 from Lagrange County and initially attached to Lagrange County for administrative and judicial purposes. The county was fully organized and detached from Lagrange County on May 1, 1837. It was named after Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben.
