History
Formed in 1844 from Adams County, Carroll County, Cass County and Miami County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Richardville County was created on January 15, 1844, from parts of Adams, Carroll, Cass, and Miami counties, but was not fully organized until May 1, 1844, when it was detached from those counties for administrative and judicial purposes. On January 13, 1845, the county gained all of Adams County that had been attached to Carroll, with corrections made the following year. On December 28, 1846, Richardville County was renamed Howard, in honor of Tilghman Howard. In 1859, Howard County gained territory from Clinton County.
