Jackson County was created in 1816 from Clark, Jefferson, and Washington counties when Indiana became a state. The county was named after Andrew Jackson. Over the following decades, Jackson County lost territory to the creation of Jennings, Scott, Bartholomew, Lawrence, and Brown counties.
