History
Formed in 1823 from Clark County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Edgar County was created from Clark County on January 3, 1823, with a non-county area attached for administrative and judicial purposes. In 1825, part of the attached area was used to create Putnam County, and in 1826, the remainder was transferred to Vermilion County upon its creation. Edgar County lost territory to the creation of Coles County in 1830.
