History

Formed in 1819 from Crawford County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Clark County was named after George Rogers Clark. In its early years, the county lost land to the creation of Pike, Fayette, Edgar, Vermilion, and Coles counties, while gaining a small area back from Crawford County in 1822.
