History

Formed in 1833 from Vermilion County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Iroquois County was created from Non-County Area 9 and Non-County Area 4 attached to Vermilion County, but was not fully organized at first and remained attached to Vermilion for judicial and other county purposes. The county was fully organized on February 24, 1834, and detached from Vermilion. Iroquois County lost territory to the creation of Will County on January 12, 1836, and later lost more territory to the creation of Kankakee County on April 5, 1853.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
