History
Formed in 1820 from Arkansas County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Phillips County was created by Arkansas Territory on June 1, 1820, from Arkansas and Non-County Area 1. Over its early decades, Phillips County exchanged land with Arkansas, Independence, and Lawrence counties, and lost territory to the creation of Crittenden, St. Francis, Monroe, and Lee counties. The county became a county of the state of Arkansas on June 15, 1836, and subsequently gained and lost territory through transfers with Monroe County.
