History

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Monroe County was created by the Arkansas Territory from Arkansas, Phillips, and a small part of Pulaski counties, with the act passed on November 2, 1829, and taking effect on January 1, 1830. The county became part of the state of Arkansas on June 15, 1836, and underwent numerous boundary changes throughout the 19th century through gains, losses, and exchanges with neighboring counties including Arkansas, Prairie, St. Francis, Phillips, Woodruff, and Lee.
