History
Formed in 1840 from Pope County and Scott County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Yell County was created from Pope and Scott counties in December 1840 and soon gained area from Pope County. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, the county experienced multiple boundary adjustments, gaining territory from Montgomery, Perry, and Logan counties, and losing area to the creation of Logan County.
