History
Formed in 1836 from Washington County, Tallahatchie County and Holmes County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Bolivar County was created from Washington, a small part of Tallahatchie, and Non-County Area 11 attached to Holmes. In 1842, it gained territory from Coahoma, but lost land to the creation of Sunflower County in 1844. Further losses occurred in 1871 when Bolivar County lost territory to Sunflower and Washington.
