History

Formed in 1839 from Marion County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Searcy County was created from Marion County on February 1, 1839, though the northern boundary with Marion remained disputed until it was defined on January 20, 1855. The county gained territory from Van Buren in 1855 but lost land to the creation of Boone County in 1869, and lost further territory to Marion, Baxter, and Stone counties between 1873 and 1873.
