History

Formed in 1836 from Holmes County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Coahoma County was created from Non-County Area 11 attached to Holmes County on March 1, 1836. The county gained and lost territory to neighboring counties including Tunica and Bolivar between 1842 and 1848, and lost land to the creation of Quitman County in 1877.
