History
Formed in 1840 from Union County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Bradley County was created from Union County in 1840. Beginning in 1845, the county lost territory to the creation of Dallas, Drew, Calhoun, Lincoln, and Dorsey (now Cleveland counties), as well as through boundary adjustments with Drew and Ashley counties. It gained small areas from Calhoun and Ashley counties over time, with the final significant boundary change occurring in 1923 when it lost a small area to Ashley County along the Saline River.
