History
Formed in 1833 from Pope County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Johnson County was created from Pope County by the Arkansas Territory on December 25, 1833, and named after Benjamin Johnson. The county lost and gained territory through multiple boundary adjustments over the following decades, including land transfers to and from neighboring counties like Scott, Pope, Madison, Franklin, and Newton.
