History
Formed in 1844 from Sevier County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Polk County was created from Sevier County on November 30, 1844. Over the following decades, the county's boundaries changed through transfers with neighboring counties: it lost area to Sebastian in 1851 and to Howard in 1873, gained area from Montgomery in 1859 and from Sebastian in 1861, and gained area from Scott in 1901.
