History
Formed in 1800 from Jefferson County and Wayne County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Trumbull County was created from Jefferson and Wayne counties in the Northwest Territory. It became a county in the state of Ohio in 1803, then lost territory to the creation of Geauga in 1806 and Ashtabula and Portage in 1808. After gaining part of Ashtabula in 1809, it lost that territory back to Ashtabula in 1811, and later lost more territory to the creation of Mahoning County in 1846.
