History
Formed in 1800 from Allegheny County, Erie County, Mercer County, Venango County and Warren County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Crawford County was created from Allegheny County on March 12, 1800, with Erie, Mercer, Venango, and Warren initially attached to it. Over the following years, these attached counties were detached: Erie and Mercer in 1803, Warren in 1805, and Venango in 1805. Crawford County later gained territory from Mercer in 1808 but lost territory to Mercer in 1854, and exchanged territory with Venango in 1822.
