History
Formed in 1808 from Trumbull County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Portage County was formed from Trumbull County in 1808, with early boundary adjustments in 1809 when part of the area was attached to newly created Huron County. Over the following decades, Portage County lost territory to the creation of Medina County in 1812 and Summit County in 1840, though it gained a small area from Medina in 1827.
