An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Wood County was created in 1820 from non-county area attached to Logan County, with Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Williams, and Hancock also attached to it for administrative and judicial purposes. Over the following years, the attached counties were organized and detached: Williams in 1824, Hancock in 1828, and Lucas was created from Wood in 1835 and 1836. In 1835, Wood County gained territory from Sandusky County and was authorized by the Ohio legislature to control the area disputed with Michigan Territory.
