History
Formed in 1803 from Hamilton County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Butler County was created from Hamilton County on May 1, 1803, and named after Richard Butler. The county gained additional territory from Hamilton County in 1808, but lost land to the creation of Preble County in that same year and to Warren County in 1815.
