History
Formed in 1805 from Adams County, Clermont County and Ross County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Highland County was created on May 1, 1805, from Adams, Clermont, and Ross counties. The county's boundaries changed several times in its early years: it lost territory to the creation of Clinton and Fayette counties in 1810, additional area to Clinton in 1813 and 1815, and then gained territory from Brown County in 1874.
