History
Formed in 1840 from Cuyahoga County and Geauga County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Lake County was created from Cuyahoga and Geauga counties on March 6, 1840, named after Lake Erie. Initially not fully organized, with parts attached to Cuyahoga and Geauga for administrative and judicial purposes, Lake County became fully organized and detached from both counties on April 6, 1840.
