History

Formed in 1804 from Fairfield County, Washington County and Columbiana County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Muskingum County was created on March 1, 1804, from Fairfield County, Washington County, and a small part of Columbiana County. From 1804 to 1819, the county lost territory through the creation of six new counties: Tuscarawas in 1808, Coshocton and Guernsey in 1810, Morgan in 1817, and Perry in 1818.
