History
Formed in 1808 from Columbiana County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Stark County was created from Columbiana County on February 13, 1808, but was not fully organized and remained attached to Columbiana for administrative and judicial purposes until 1809. The county was named after John Stark. Over time, Stark County lost territory to the creation of other counties: Carroll in 1833, Summit in 1840, and a small area to Tuscarawas in 1848.
