History
Formed in 1813 from Belmont County, Guernsey County and Washington County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Monroe County was created from Belmont, Guernsey, and Washington Counties, though it was not fully organized at first and had parts attached to those counties for administrative and judicial purposes. The county was fully organized and detached from the surrounding counties on March 1, 1815. It gained additional territory from Morgan County in 1819 and from Washington County in 1851, though it also lost territory to the creation of Noble County that same year.
